Monsignor George P. Miller
Monsignor George Miller was born to George P. Miller, Sr. and the late Virginia Stewart Miller on March 30, 1950. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, with a younger sister, LaNell. Following graduation from high school, he earned a BSE degree at Drake University. He entered the Franciscan Order in 1972 and completed his theological studies at St. Leonard College, Dayton, Ohio (M. Div.) and the University of Dayton (MRS). After serving two assignments as associate pastor, he began working in the Metropolitan Tribunal of Detroit in March, 1982. In 1990, he was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Detroit and immediately pursued studies in Canon Law at St. Paul University, Ottawa, Canada (JCL) and at the University of Ottawa (MCL) which he completed in 1992.
Since completing his licentiate degree he has functioned as Defender of the Bond, Judge, Adjutant Judicial Vicar, and, from June of 2001 through September of 2009, as Judicial Vicar of the Metropolitan Tribunal. For over twenty years he assisted with weekday Masses at St. Aloysius Parish in downtown Detroit. In addition, Msgr. Miller founded and directed the lay-advocate program, has functioned as the spiritual director for the Catholic Lawyer’s Society of Detroit (1992-1999), and is a judge on marriage nullity cases for the Diocese of Toledo as well as responsibilities as a Judge for the Detroit Tribunal. He has served for 18 years as weekend assistant at St. Anselm and St Linus Parishes in Dearborn Heights. In November of 2009, Msgr. Miller was appointed administrator of St. Jude Parish in Detroit and will assume the pastorate of St. Ronald Parish in Clinton Township July 1, 2010.
